9/10/14 THE HIP ABDUCTION PERFORM TO TAMPA BAY TIMES 10TH YEAR ANNIVERSARY PARTY CAPACITY CROWD AT JANNUS LIVE.
Last night The Hip Abduction, the Florida-based 6-piece Alt-Rock/Reggae/Afro-Beat band, performed to a near capacity crowd at the historic Jannus Live concert venue in their hometown of St. Petersburg for the Tampa Bay Times 10th Year Anniversary Party.
While THA continues to steadily grow beyond the Tampa Bay market, with notable performances at this years Wanee Festival at Spirit of The Suwannee Music Park (attended by over 45,000 people) and this coming weekend’s Carolina Sessions at Battleship Park in Wilmington, NC (organized by Cali Roots, likely the most successful festival production team in the domestic Reggae/Rock scene), playing to sold out crowds at home is nothing new for the band. Their first performance at Jannus Live in February of 2011 was attended by over 2,000 fans with every show at the venue since being nothing short of a total success.
Drawing inspiration from Reggae and African traditions, The Hip Abduction places heavy emphasis on African stringed instrumentation such as the Kora and Ngoni, Dub-Reggae-inspired bass lines, and funky Afro-Beat rhythms. This unique sound, paired with the band's high-energy performances and good vibes message, makes The Hip Abduction stand out within an increasingly over saturated music scene. Their 2013 self titled release, produced by Michael Goldwasser, debuted at #5 on the Billboard Reggae charts and continues to top the iTunes charts.
Following their upcoming Carolina Sessions performance, the band is scheduled to play a date at 1904 Music Hall in Jacksonville, FL, with Rootz Underground from Kingston, Jamaica. After that it’s right off to this years Earthdance Florida Festival, a globally-synchronized music and art festival taking place at over 80 locations worldwide. The band wraps up the month with a string of dates in Texas, opening as direct support for Passafire.
