The
Inlet pro tow-at contest is an invitational event which showcases some of the
most athletic maneuvers in the sport. Utilizing Sea Doo jet skis, surfers are
sling shot into waves up to 20mph leading to big aerials and deep carves. This
year the surfers included: Clay Marzo (Hawaii), Dane Reynolds, (Cali), Nate
Yeomans (Cali), Adam Wickwire (Satellite Beach), Nathaniel Curran (Cali), Blake
Jones (Melbourne Beach), Alek Parker (Melbourne Beach), Dido Agius (Australia),
Jason Collins (Cali). Alek Parker ended up winning the Tow-At contest and won
a 2007 Sea Doo. Surfers on the WCT usually do not participate in the tow-at
comp. It's one thing that can make some of the WQS surfers more noticed for
a possible spot on the WCT. A year ago Australia's Josh Kerr did just that and
launched himself from a victory in the Red Bull Tow-At contest to a spot on
this year's 45-man World Championship tour. The water all weekend at the Inlet
was near perfect in the upper 60's-70 degree range. For many of us it's perfect
without wearing a wetsuit during an unseasonably warm weekend in early January
with temps near the mid 80's.
