The 2013 ESA SE Regionals went down last weekend in New Smyrna Beach with plenty of drama. SE winds, NE winds, rain, and plenty of shark sightings, but this didn't hamper the competition that took place out in the water. Surf was contestable all 4 days and ranged from waist to head high and changing each day. My son Christian aced his first round heat which allowed him to skip over the quarters and semi rounds and right into the finals that took place on Sunday. Struggling to find a decent back up score in the finals, it came down to the last couple of minutes of the heat where he finally found a good wave and got a score that placed him in third! Way to go grom! Other Gulfcoast stand outs were former Plant city's Joey Putnal placing 4th in the menehune division and Izzi Gomez (1st in jr. women's long board, 2nd in girls short board, and she received an Iron man award) and former AMI resident Giorgio Gomez (1st place open SUP). Congrats to you groms!!
